I am originally from Guilford, Connecticut and am a May 2026 graduate of Syracuse University with a Bachelors of Science in photography from the S. I. Newhouse School of Public Communications. My focuses are in photography, photojournalism, videography, and overall creative athletic media.

My career aim is simple: To capture fleeting moments of the human experience through my lens and evolve into one of the world's most accomplished photographers and videographers in the sports realm. By covering events ranging from college sports to local soccer clinics to the Dallas Cowboys summer training camp, I have gained considerable experience as a photographic storyteller.

I hope you stick around! What you see here is the continuing evolution of my creative passion and career ambitions.

I've always liked keeping documentation of my experiences in life.

If you'd like, you can click here to see my document dating back to 2018, with information from every game I've ever photographed, including who's playing, records, scores, and more! (Use a computer for a better viewing experience!)

Never forget

your roots.

Never forget your roots is the term was coined as the mantra of my budding photography business, Jacob Halsema Photography. Behind those words lay unbelievable pride for not only my Connecticut roots, but also for how the journey with my camera began, in 2019. Ensuring that I never forget how I got to where I am now as a creative content story teller is very important to my vision, incorporating these foundations into all aspects of my life as a photographer and human being. Carrying these words in my back pocket everywhere I go helps me stay humble in all of my endeavors.

Humility is the key to being able to progress through life successfully. Understanding your worth but not letting it get the best of you is how Jacob Halsema Photography was formed and continues to progress.

Fast, Clean, Polished, Organized

Fast, Clean, Polished, Organized (FCPO) is the other half of how I carry myself when covering an athletic event. Incorporating an athlete-type mindset into photography keeps me organized and up-to-speed with the action.

  • Fast: Quick speed with my eyes and hands, ensuring that I am keeping up with the athletes.

  • Clean: Quality shots being taken, knowing what to shoot vs. what not to shoot.

  • Polished: Capturing all important facets of the event while also editing properly.

  • Organized: Putting all of the above together while also making sure that photo deliverables are ready when they need to be.

Split-Second Standard

Split-Second Standard (SSS) became an off-shot of Fast, Clean, Polished, Organized (FCPO). Being as fast as possible when covering an athletic event is the standard, always. Having fast eyes, hands, reflexes and reaction time is vital for staying afloat amongst other sports photographers and content creators within the industry.
